After a 41-year hospitality reporting career, the chief
editor will step down on March 31.
RUTHERFORD, New Jersey – Hotel Investment Today Editor in
Chief Jeff Weinstein has announced his planned retirement at the end of March.
“After 41 years of covering the hospitality industry, I am
stepping back from my role on my terms to focus more on my family and, perhaps
for the first time, myself,” Weinstein said. “It has been an honor to help
create Hotel Investment Today and I feel very lucky to have toiled in an
industry that I choose to romance as one that provides shelter and sustenance –
the world’s oldest profession. To me, being of service, being an innkeeper, is
noble, and viewing the business through those rose-colored lenses has been my
preference. I’ve always been an innkeeper at heart.”
With a degree in journalism, Weinstein started his
professional career in 1979 at a small Iowa newspaper and then as an editor in
a 24-hour teletext and videotext newsroom that delivered news and information
via a dedicated terminal pre-internet.
In 1986, he became a senior editor for B2B giant Cahners
Publishing and its Restaurants & Institutions flagship. In 1994, he took
over as chief editor at HOTELS magazine and in 1996 created HOTELS’ Investment
Outlook.
During his 28 years with HOTELS, he ran the high-profile
Hotelier of the World awards program as well as ran the Global Hoteliers Club
with thousands of hoteliers who worked on at least three continents.
In 2023, he joined Northstar Travel Group and The Burba
Hotel Network to launch Hotel Investment Today, which serves the global hotel
investment community with breaking news, deal analysis and profiles of the
dealmakers.
“Jeff is an icon in the hotel business, and we wish him well
in this well-deserved next chapter of his life. He has been a joy to know as a
friend and a co-worker during these past 3-plus years at Hotel Investment
Today,” said Jeff Higley, president of Northstar Travel Group’s Hotel
Investment Group. “Jeff’s commitment to his family and dedication to his craft
are cornerstones of an illustrious career that is punctuated by the headline:
‘Weinstein: Job well done — enjoy the fruits of your labor!’”
